The Newburgh Free Library Job & Continuing Education Information Center at the library and on the web is now ready to help with your information needs. Job-seeking or finding a new career is easier when you have the right tools. Through our on-hand materials, useful websites and online databases you’ll be able to jump-start your job hunt and explore careers. The library offers continuing education classes on computer skills and how to use our electronic resources for job searching and writing your resume. Glassdoor.com- a new site for job seekers

Glassdoor.com contains job listings, salaries, company reviews, ratings, company information, CEO approval rating, competitors, content providers, and more company information.  Users can find and anonymously share real-time reviews, ratings and salary details about specific jobs for specific employers. Glassdoor.com is an excellent way to get inside information on companies you might want to work at, including how satisified the employees are, what they see as the pros and cons, and how much they are earning.

Glassdoor.com Company Search:

Users are able to preview basic information without registering. However, to browse the reviews and salaries in the Glassdoor community and get involved in discussions, members are required to register. Registration is free.

Test materials in print: 

CONTINUING EDUCATION
At the library you can access continuing education test materials such as ACT and other college tests, AP studies, GED and Pre-GED, NCLEX-PN and RN, GRE, GMAT, PRAXIS, SAT and LSAT, and TOEFL to name a few.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMS AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL TESTS STUDY GUIDES
The collection also includes Civil Service and other test books including police, social worker, airplane mechanic, sanitation worker, CDL commercial driver’s license, bus driver and firefighter plus many more. These materials are located in the Job Information Center and can all be checked out.

JOB AND CAREER CHOICES, RESUMES, GREEN JOBS AND WORK AT HOME
Of course, on the shelf and available for check out, we have information about careers including green jobs and working at home.

Information about Resumes and Cover Letters can be found in the collection under 650.14, and in our Job Information Center Collection.

To locate additional materials about specific job field and career choices check our collection under numbers 350, 640 & 650. Try searching our online catalog or ask any librarian for assistance.

 

Online Resting, Education and Job Search Tools

In the library or through our website you can reach online testing & educational resources which contain an assortment of practice certification exams as well as other resources to aid in job searches. E-books are now available in the Learning Centers.

The Learning Centers have skill development tools and practice tests covering Elementary Grades through High School to GED programs and College Admission Tests as well as occupation practice tests, workplace skills and U.S. Citizenship in English and Spanish.

The Learning Express Library and the Job and Career Accelerator are linked together to provide a full suite of educational, job skills and career development opportunities.

The Job and Career Accelerator is a full-service job search suite.  Using these tools and the resources and classes at the library can lead you along the path to locating the job you want including exploring your interests, learning the skills you can use, preparing your resume and finding that job.  You will need to create a user name and password to start an account that can be saved with your resume, job search results and classes in progress.

Live Interview Coaching: Patrons can brush up on interview techniques or get live online interview practice from trained job coaches. Job coaches and patrons communicate via live chat in our online classroom. In addition to live interview coaching, patrons enjoy 24/7 access to interview tips and career resources

Resume Lab: Job seekers receive expert resume/cover letter assistance from trained experts. Users are also able to download resume templates, or browse resources for producing better resumes.

Career Resources: Patrons enjoy 24/7 access to a carefully-selected library of job resources. In addition, Brainfuse job coaches help users strategically target jobs best suited to their interests and qualifications.

Adult Learning Center: The Adult Learning Center provides foundational, career-enhancing skills to job seekers. In addition, the Adult Learning Center offers test preparation (including the GED and the USCIS citizenship test) and a unique academic skills center featuring live, online tutors.
